Modern recording technology has increased the dynamic scope and range to where sonic density is for the first time virtually “unlimited.” This “huge” aspect has crept up on everyone, to where this is all we pay attention to; and, it is easily achieved. We have forgotten that “density” can exist within every aspect of music production, i.e. harmony, melody, structure, lyrical content, instrumentation, background vocals, ETC… Where artists of yesteryear (and many are still here) “were forced” to innovate and create denser chord progressions, more complex harmonic , melodic content in order to sustain
interest/attention; however, these artists are a bit miffed (understatement) by the current state of pop music (2019). One reason: it is easy to impress
consumers/listeners with sonically loud passages featuring extremely repetitive chord progressions; melodies; lyrics; instrumentation; and structure. With that, we have become “slaves” to the modern recording machine, as musicians and listeners. It is time to break out of this “modern music” prison, but you must earn it.

ANYONE can achieve the huge sonic, dynamic range of modern music. Maybe the reason that “no one” is buying tracks or albums is because these “works of art” are so easily replicable. Would you buy anything you thought you could do yourself? The difference is in the other aspects of music production: melody, lyrics, chords, progressions, structure, and instrumentation (which require real musicians). We need to create greater density within those other areas of music production. Let’s do this! THERE IS MEANING IN SEQUENCE Understand the place within which a song/track was placed.
