What to expect from lessons with me [2019]:


Lessons with me, especially at this point, involve learning how to play like me, or do what I do, within the context of common, contemporary music literature (rock, funk, jazz, blues, pop, etc. tunes). For my students, you will receive an accurate assessment of your playing abilities in order to apply the proper materials presented in the proper sequence with which to learn from. Materials usually include the playing of songs, lead-playing, reading notation, understanding the theory and history of most genres.


With the advent of high-tech communication technology, many sources of information relating to guitar and learning guitar are very easily accessible. However, what is missing from these sources is an accurate assessment of one's playing abilities within the context of one's tastes, goals, and learning tendencies. There are millions of videos on YouTube, a plethora of teaching websites, and yet none of these sources are able to sit down with you and see what is really going on and from there proceed in a logical, helpful manner. This is something very important and missing, and this is what I provide. This is what is different between learning on the internet and learning from me in a private lesson.

Being a Musician

If you are contemplating a career as a musician, I would like you to consider the FACT that making music is totally opposed to making it in the music industry. If you want to make your living as a musician, you best hope that you are more lucky than good. However, if you are great, brilliant, and lucky, it is a no-brainer, and of course this would be the exception and not the norm.



Probably the single greatest factor for music going down the crapper.

The Grammys
Probably the single greatest waste of time in the music industry. It's all about dancing, now. 
The Telecommunications Act of 1996 "designed to open up markets to competition by removing unnecessary regulatory barriers to entry" (Wikipedia:
For large media companies: "Competition" = "NO COMPETITION" And that's exactly what has transpired. All local markets have suffered from the tentacles of large media corporations swooping down on those markets and buying up as many small media outlets/stations/networks. The Clinton administration, in the name of compromise, had unleashed the power and fury of large corporations on OUR local airwaves eliminating the true competition of the various independently owned radio stations. Since only a FEW companies own ALL of the major radio stations in a market, the playlists of these stations became similar and un-inventive. "Creativity" symbolized "bottom line acquisition." And the "bottom line" of this paragraph is "RADIO SUCKS."

This is a short list, and this in no way closely represents the entire possible list of artists and bands that have helped shape the way I play.
However, this list is a great perspective of why I play the way I play.


Modern VS. Old-School

Well... I definitely favor old-school. Obviously, it's not the same for everybody. When I first started to teach guitar, I never used any tablature to teach solos or leads. I would simply show leads lick-by-lick, send them off, and those students would go home and practice whatever I showed them. The thing about old-school is that you had to practice the lick in order to remember it since the lick was not written down. In that process, the student would play the lick over and over in order to remember it, and therefore at the same time, become much more proficient at playing the lick. When the student understands that the lick is written, he or she will automatically feel it is unnecessary to remember the lick. With that, the student will NOT internalize the lick nearly as well than the student that must deal with the lick not being written.
